PCMH presents They Might Be Giants - June 12

April 17, 2009 by rob-pcmh

PCMH Presents - They Might Be Giants

June 12, 2009 21+ $25 ADV $28 DOS

On Sale April 24 9:00AM

Formed as a duo in 1982, They Might Be Giants has had one hell of a career. The Brooklyn,  band was founded twenty something years back by John Flansburgh and John Linnell. Their Dial-A-Song service predated much of today's DIY internet activity. The band enjoyed an amazing run of breakthrough videos on MTV in the late 80s and early 90s. Their album Flood went platinum. The band expanded to a more traditional line-up, and developed a reputation as a "must see" live show. In the late 90s the band began expanding their horizons into television, movies, and the internet, notably contributing the opening theme to "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me," "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and the Grammy winning song "Boss of Me" for "Malcom in the Middle."

Last year TMBG launched their free monthly podcast which has turned into an underground national favorite, routinely popping into the top ten on iTunes music podcast chart (one of the few non-broadcast related efforts to do so), with hundreds of thousands of subscribers participating. The band has also collaborated with the beloved www.homestarrunner.com web site.

TMBG’s latest album, The Else, is full of musical surprises, lyrical twists and sonic turns. While the album finally captures their notoriously talented live band in all their barnstorming glory, the complete effort is actually an electrifying mix of homebrewed sonic madness and studio mastery. Over a year and a half in the making and recorded on both coasts, the album was created in collaboration with LA producers theDust Bros. (Beck, Beastie Boys, Hanson) and NYC engineer/producer Patrick Dillett (Mary J. Blige, David Byrne, Soul Coughing).

The band won another Grammy award this year for Best Musical Album For ChildrenHere Come The 123's!

Re: The State Theatre rumors

March 31, 2009 by rob-pcmh

Ok so here is the next scoop in the rumor mill.  According to Pollstar, Toxic Audio, is scheduled to play the State Theater on 7/27/09.  I am pretty sure this is some kind of misprint but if you're really motivated to find out call Toxic Audio's booking agent at Castle Talent. 407.909.9650

Hmmmmm?  What/who will be next?

PCMH and WPOR welcome Randy Houser 5/31/09

March 30, 2009 by rob-pcmh

One listen to his soul-drenched singing is enough to convince you that you are in the presence of a masterful performer. One scan of his deeply felt lyrics is all the proof you need to see that this is a major songwriting talent. And one meeting with this smiling, endearing, open-hearted personality is all it takes to make you believe he deserves to be a star.

That indefinable something, called charisma, is all over his exceptional debut CD. Whether plunging into sadness or leaping for joy in song, Randy Houser has what all great country artists have – believability.

The album is the capstone of an extraordinary run of good fortune for the singer-songwriter. Thanks to his riveting vocal prowess, Randy is receiving great response from both fans and radio programmers with his first single, the gripping, strikingly emotional ballad “Anything Goes.”

As illustrated in his breakthrough single, Randy Houser is a breathtaking vocalist with fire and conviction at his core. The songs he has chosen by other writers for this album are superb showcases for the vocal side of his talent. In addition to “Anything Goes,” they include the sensual “Strange” and the ultra-cool, groove-saturated “How Many Times,” the latter featuring harmony vocals by superstar Vince Gill.

Just a thought... How does one complete and estimated $1M worth of fire code renovations without having a single building permit issued by the City of Portland, or the State Fire Marshalls Office?

Has any one seen large crews of construction workers in and around the State?

Our lease restricts us from having all ages.  It is mainly an insurance liability thing.

Thanks for the interest. I think we can house about 90% of your suggestions, and many of them are on the radar. The others like 311 and Slightly Stoopid may be too big. Stay tuned for more info and keep the feedback coming.

FYI stage specs 27'6" wide, 16' deep, 30" high, and trim 14'0" Large enough for most club level touring act rider requirements, including large acts like Wu-Tang, Derek Trucks etc. I wouldn't consider either small/low level bands. I'm pretty sure they're headliners. It's actually a larger stage than many of the "Pollstar top 100 club venues". Remember its a club, not a theatre.

Thanks for all the thoughtful feedback. It is great to see that this is the most popular thread on the forum! I hope the interest continues and translates into sold out shows once we get the doors open. While we can't please all the people all of the time, it is our goal to please most of the people most of the time. Input from the community as things move forward will only help us achieve this goal. Stay tuned to the website FMI.
