Patrick M, Male, 32, US

After performing in, and promoting bands and concerts throughout college, Patrick started booking the bands he was performing in out of sheer necessity. Patrick was able to diversify his understanding of the industry and became manager & talent buyer for Halvorson's Upstreet Café,(Burlington, VT)where he was responsible for booking, promoting & producing thier concerts. A future as a booking agent was cemented while volunteering at www.bigheavyworld.com (a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and archiving Vermont musicians). Patrick landed himself at Skyline Music in 2002 where he books the Northeast region and is the responsible agent for Toubab Krewe, Dubconscious, Lez Zeppelin, Black 47, Jazz Mandolin Project & Auktyon

Wow! Thanks for turning us all on to this site Eric. The variable-rate payment system is where it's at.

If you haven't figured it out already, nobody wants to do the heavy lifting when it comes to developing new talent. The risk/reward ratio is simply too skewed in favor of wasted time and money for industry types to get involved until an artist has been able to show inherent viability on their own.

So in order for your new project to get off the ground, you must accept that you (and your 'mates if you have them) will have to roll up the sleeves and grab this bull by the horns if you want to get noticed on a regional or national scale.

I am looking to discuss DIY Promotion as it relates to live show. So let's get started with the attached file from Skyline Music called 100 FREE & AFFORDABLE HIGH & LOW TECH WAYS TO PROMOTE MUSIC.

Believe it or not even on the national level there are bands & venues that miss the boat on new and innovative ways to promote live shows. We have made this LIVING DOCUMENT available to anyone who wants it b/c we believe the better promoters we all are, the healthier our industry becomes. This list only scratches the surface as new techniques evolve daily, but enjoy it, pass it around and feel free to ask questions AND MAKE SUGGESTIONS on new creative ways you are promoting YOUR CAREER.
