PORT CITY MUSIC HALL Arts & Publicity Internships Fall 2009

The Port City Music Hall is a flexible performing arts venue with two stages in Portland, Maine, presenting a diverse spectrum of performing arts including music, spoken word and poetry, theater, and comedy. Port City works from a core schedule of nationally touring artists and bands of all genres as well as a deep commitment to developing the thriving local music scene. Capacity is 550. The venue is located in the heart of the Arts District.Port City Music Hall offers internships each semester and in the summer. Positions are not paid. Credit is available if offered through the participant's school. Schedule will be determined on an individual basis with the student accepted into the program. Applicants do not have to be actively enrolled in a university or college. Applicants must be 18 or older.Internship positiions are now open for the semester beginning in September 09. Interested applicants should submit a letter outlining their unique qualifications and interest, and a one-page resume. Interview required.

PORT CITY MUSIC HALL INTERNSHIP POSITIONS:

Music Publicity and Promotion
Position in publicity office of Portland performing arts venue presenting nationally touring artists and bands. Experience will include writing and preparing press releases and photos; acquiring and distibuting posters and flyers; targeting and developing niche marketing lists; assist in developing creative promotional campaigns: in-house and local media/ business partner co-promotes. Develop and execute creative venue promotions utilizing available and developing electronic media - social networking sites, blogs, YouTube, FaceBook, Twitter, texting, e-mail newsletters, etc. This internship can incorporate a graphic design element if candidate has design experience. 

Booking Internship
Assist talent buyers in busy office of Portland performing arts venue presenting nationally touring artists and bands. Daily tasks related to artist contracts and communications with agents, artist management and publicity contacts, and fufilling day-to-day contractual obligations related to performances.

Graphic Design Intern
Position in publicity office of Portland performing arts venue presenting nationally touring artists and bands. Develop/assist in design and production of in-house publications: posters, flyers, handbills, tablecards. Potential for online graphics as well.

Photography Intern
Unique opportunity at Portland performing arts venue presenting nationally touring artists and bands. Cover the range of activity on days of performances; from documenting behind-the-scenes activity for blogs and social networking media to some performance photography. Own equipment required; photographic experience necessary.
