thank you.
oh, and here's the front cover artwork...for the visual ... (included in download)
I was finally able to get some time to listen to this album. I really enjoyed it. Any words of wisdom for anyone else looking to make their music available for no cost? Have you every considered Creative Commons?
Hudson Eakin, from The Way out Is Through, just registered his new, free, album through Creative Commons, but I didn't really understand what that meant. I just knew it could be downloaded for free. From what I could gather, it just offered some copyright protection?
Hello all,
My name is Mike Gregoire and I run a site that shares Creative Commons licensed music, blocSonic.com. I'm new here and just wanted to expand on what Creative Commons is and share a link to more information.
Creative Commons (CC) licensing doesn't offer "copyright protection". That's because when you license a work with a CC license, your work still retains a traditional copyright which remains your copyright protection. What CC licensing does do is enhance the copyright by specifying exactly in what ways your works can be used. You can specify that your work can be shared and redistributed non-commercially. You can specify that your work can be shared and remixed/altered. There are other options as well. The best way you can gain further insight into what Creative Commons licensing is and what options you have is by checking out this link.
I hope the above clears up a bit. I'd love to see more local artists embracing Creative Commons licensing so that I can work with them in the future by including them on one of blocSonic's releases.
BTW… thelin… I'll definitely be downloading your album and giving it a listen. I hope you choose to CC it.
Peace
Mike Gregoire

Thanks Mike - that's helpful.
dbodoff - thanks for listening. what made it easier for me in terms of being able to offer it for free is essentially because (besides the mastering) I was able to do everything myself... production/mixing/cover art/etc. ... so really there wasn't any significant "overhead" in the making of this...then it's just a matter of creating the mp3's/pdf of the music & artwork - then finally having a website to host a "direct" link. -- which if you wanted one now only costs you like 15-$20 a year/VERY cheap -- The option(s) of MegaUpload.com, YouSendIt, SendSpace, etc. exist, but are definitely a "3rd party" with slow(er) download speeds, certain number of downloads, annoying "key codes."
mike - nice. I'll certainly look into CC. thanks.
