Anyone know how to change the user name we are given on here? all I could find was something that says you have to pay $5 to do it. is that right?

since this is your first post, i'd just start a new account.
obviously, that won't work for everyone. (and is not really a good solution)
I would prefer that the forum showed real names rather than usernames, then this wouldn't be an issue...

To be clear, there's nothing on this forum that should cost you anything.

some of the functionality of our forum is a bit different than what is done normally. We had one or two unique circumstances that these forum were able to work with better than any of the others. The only strange one that effects us is the issue of changing usernames. You would have to create a new profile.
