Hey peeps, if you haven't seen this, take a look. If you're at all interested in the recording process, this is a relatively inexpensive way to learn a lot in a hurry. After the PMF discount, it's only $360 for a week of both learning from Jim Begley and actually turning the nobs yourself.

MAMM, PMF, PSC and the Studio set up Camp

Portland area offered chance to learn the recording process from industry professionals

PORTLAND—The Maine Academy of Modern Music, the Portland Music Foundation, rock trio Paranoid Social Club, and the Studio have come together to create a Recording Studio Camp, based on MAMM’s successful Rock Camps and Hip-Hop Camps, allowing students of all ages to learn the recording process from the ground up with seasoned professionals.

Paranoid Social Club—a Rustic Overtones side project featuring Dave Gutter, Jon Roods, and Tony McNaboe—will record tracks toward a new album, with long-time Studio engineer and PMF board member Jim Begley and MAMM students on the other side of the glass. This provides future professional engineers and home-recording enthusiasts with an unprecedented educational opportunity, something unavailable even in Maine’s university environment.

The camps take place August 4 through 8 and August 18 through 22 at the Studio, located at 45 Casco Street in Portland (www.thestudioportland.com).

PSC’s members have worked with some of the biggest names in the recording business, including producer Tony Visconti and David Bowie. Jim Begley and the Studio have worked with everyone from jazzman Charlie Musselwhite to classical composer Elliot Schwartz to epic songwriter Eugene McDaniels to blues legend Pinetop Perkins, along with literally hundreds of local and regional bands.

The Portland Music Foundation (www.portlandmusicfoundation.org) was eager to support this venture, as it furthers the organization’s goal of educating and professionalizing the local music industry. PMF members will receive a 10 percent discount on the camp tuition.

To register for one of the camps, please call Camp Registrar Emily Hawkinson directly at 207.712.3696.
