working fast and furious. yes we'll open!! sound and light install today - place is actually starting to look like a music venue now!
Our web site is slow to get online - though a facepage with the full schedule with ticket links is there. Also a link to our blog. I'm hoping our full web site will get out of beta and into the ether next week.
Save yourself a click - here's the link to the blog w/lots of photos and video. http://www.portcitymusichall.blogspot.com/
Definitely check out the Hilly Town tour above for some great photos taken on Monday.
Or go the one-stop shopping route and check out our FaceBook page - I just subscribed our blog to the Notes section there (only problem is it doesn't seem to import the posted videos, but gets the photos).
See you Saturday, champagne in hand.
ps. Maino, Chris Michetti (of RAQ), the Saw Doctors, and John Scofield just added...

Yeah, this is unfortunate - I'm always amazed at the liquor license hang-up. Anybody else go to that Colepitz opening show at the Skinny, only to find a note on the door saying it was a no go? Same problem, as I recall.

It's like bands with a CD release show: Don't schedule the show until you've actually got the discs in hand, or at least be very conservative with your scheduling. Duplicators and bureaucrats are similarly inclined to screw up your schedule.

Big news for us! The City of Portland has granted us a temporary 30-day 21+ liquor license after our inspection by the state failed yesterday due to clerical errors.

City Hall quickly came to our aid and granted the temporary license. State Senator Justin Alfond (District 8 Portland) then rose to the occasion after offices closed yesterday and facilitated the temporary issuance. Rob is on his way to Augusta right now to pick up this all-important piece of paper thanks to Senator Alfond's commitment on a Saturday morning. Please drop Senator Alfond a quick e-mail Justin@justinalfond.com and let him know you appreciate his support of the Portland music scene and small business in general. These are the kind of pro-active legislators we need pulling for us at the Sate House! We really regret that this currently does not include the 18 - 21 year old crowd. We are still pursuing an 18+ license at the state level. You guys are important voters - e-mail Senator Alfond and let him know you support his efforts on your behalf!

Pepper will be doing a spring tour with support from Pennywise.

This would be a good show for the PCMH to book. Sidecar Radio could possibly open the show.

Hope you consider it.

isis have a new album coming out in april and will surely be touring in support of it. despite being boston based until 2003, im pretty sure the last time they ever played here was at the fine arts cinema in 2000, so needless to say they are long overdue for a show. PCMH should really try to get them. they seem to almost always play 18/21+ venues too, so that restriction shouldnt matter.

man port city, you guys should REALLY try to figure some way to make all ages shows work. its so incredibly sad and depressing that the station is the only all ages venue in town. i went there tonight for the sold out unearth show, and despite the band being great, it was overall a totally miserable experience. it was either squeeze yourself into the performance area like sardine and kinda see the band and risk getting knocked around, or stand over near the pool tables and maybe see the band from the shoulders up (provided you didnt have a pillar blocking the way). and on top of it it was ridiculously hot. (i could not believe the steam that was pouring down the front entrance stairs every time the door was opened) that place is just not suited for major bands or big crowds.
on a side note, while waiting in line for the bathroom at the show, some dude started talking to me and saying that supposedly the state theater is going to re-open? has anyone heard anything? is there any truth to this?

i saw in a phoenix ad that the ok go show is 18+, but chem free? that doesnt make any sense, if its chem free, then why isnt it all ages?

Our lease restricts us from having all ages. It is mainly an insurance liability thing.

just got back from the ok go show. port city is pretty damn cool, a lot bigger than what it looked like in pictures, especially the stage, and rad that there are a bunch of places to sit. and most importantly, the bathrooms dont suck! thats always crucial in my decision of if i love or hate a venue haha.

now the lease restricting you guys from having all ages, is that something that can be changed somehow down the road, or is it set in stone? cause obviously, with the left section of tables being seperated and having its own bar, i cant help but to fantasize of a day when all ages shows can happen and of age people could still drink in that section. that would rule so much, but i understand there are higher powers that make something that seems like such a logical solution extremely difficult to make happen.

regardless, the place is great and has so much potential and im so happy that there is another proper venue in portland.

Ed Roland!? Fall of 2007 he did a clinic at Daddy's Junky Music in the Marden's plaza on the Westbrook/Portland line. I was one of 12 people to attend. He played 5-6 songs acoustic and sang. We got to take photos with him, get autographs and talk to him one on one. It was open to anyone and no one showed up. Such a great experience!

Get Mogwai to Portland. Please.

i would DIE if mogwai played portland. shame they tend to do only one US tour per album, so itll probably be at least another 2 years before they come around again. though there IS a open day the day before boston on this current tour.
