HAH! wu-tang is playing sunday river on january 3rd. i guess since rob mentioned them they must have been in consideration for port city. pretty neat.

also, i see derek trucks is playing sugarloaf the night after port city, i hope that doesnt affect the draw much. this place needs to succeed.

Detuned.. thanks for keeping this thread active! Wu-Tang was in consideration, but due to construction delays we had to pass as the only avail was 1/3. Maybe next time...

I'm very excited about the OK Go and Oppenheimer show. Both bands have opened for TMBG in the past, so...book TMBG sometime! (I'm very persistent)

Thanks for the interest. I think we can house about 90% of your suggestions, and many of them are on the radar. The others like 311 and Slightly Stoopid may be too big. Stay tuned for more info and keep the feedback coming.

I think Les Claypool would be great to have there. Same with Ben Folds. but they might be too big for such a small(er) place
I wouldnt mind seeing Billy Bragg, Eagles of Death Metal, Jeff Tweedy, Old Crow Medicine Show come to mind.
How available will this place be to local acts?

FYI, the comingtoportland link seems broken. But like the concept.

Bring Grizzly Bear. They're upcoming album is going to be fantastic and lifechanging!

And yes, 1up on the Ben Folds. Seen him twice. He's a wonderful performer!

Cool. Keep the suggestions coming. Antwaid and camjones - you nailed several on my wish list too.

Portland bands booked as of 1/5 include: Sidecar Radio (1/17); Putnam Smith and Lovewhip (1/22); Sly-Chi (1/23); Samuel James (2/15). Lots of opportunites. Regional bands = Fear Nuttin Band (Springfield, MA 1/17); Firewater Band (MA 1/17); Jordan Valentine (Boston 1/17); Lovewhip (call them Boston, call them our own - whichever you prefer, 1/17).

Bands being added all the time - web site coming; blog currently blogging at http://www.portcitymusichall.blogspot.com/ (just added good Sidecar Radio & Fear Nuttin video...).

Thx for the link heads-up - our current staff of 3 (not counting newly hired bar/security/wait staff) is logging in the miles elsewhere. Probably time to take it down anyway - it has served its purpose. Kudos go to Lapchick Creative for for their work on that campaign.

Hadn't noticed Putnam Smith and Lovewhip on the same bill. Now that's diversity!

a local one man band that played in Dirty Projectors- among others-
his name is Nat Baldwin, he plays upright, electric bass and sings, his voice is amazing, and carefree, a little like ray lamontgne scratchy voice- who also is a lewiston local.

Nico Vega, a young woman, sings along side her male acoustic guitar player. together they make a great-big- yet quint duo. Her big, soulful, scratchy-folkish voice and their energy together, is worthy of a big stage and crowd!

a group out of seatle, washington, the Crystal Skulls are a great new group, similar to the sounds of kinks, panda bear, deer hoof, decemberists- but very unique in their lead singers's voice. new to the rock, underground scene. very sway-ful and groovy. helpful with quirky instruments, with the aid of killer keyboard riffs.

-give 'em a listen, you may like what you hear!

I'll one up on Nat Baldwin. Missed his show in late December unfortunately. He also played with Department of Eagles last year. Check out his Daytrotter session here: http://daytrotter.com/article/1312/nat-baldwin Very unique folk music.
